Firearm Competency Training Center was established to bring quality, accredited, firearm training to the Security Industry and to the general public seeking to comply with current legislation in the licensing of their firearms.

We have established strategic alliances with accredited assessors throughout the country and are positioned to bring our services to your area.

We offer training in the following core unit standards as part of the qualification:-

  • Use of a handgun (Unit standard 10748)
  • Use of a hand machine carbine 
    (Unit standard 10756)
  • Use of a shotgun (Unit standard 10754)
  • Use of a rifle (Unit standard 10750)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act No 60 of 2000) applicable to possessing a firearm (Unit standard 117705)
  • Develop and use keyboard skills to enter text
  • Operate a personal computer
  • Handle a service dog to deter crime and for protection
  • Caring for the welfare of a service dog
  • Render basic first aid
  • Use and maintain basic security equipment
  • Preform basic fire fighting
  • Use language & communication in occupational learning programmes (F-3-05-8973)
  • Write texts for a range of communicative contexts
  • Ensuring asset protection through access and egress control
  • Supervision of service dogs in a kennel enviroment
  • Effecting a lawful citizens arrest
  • Receive, report and react to customer complaints within a security enviroment
  • Safe and secure escorting of valuables, people & suspects
  • Protection of premises and assets under all conditions
  • Manage own performance and work as part of a security team
  • Coach learners
  • Attend and give evidence in court
  • Describe, apply, analyse and calculate shape and motion in 2-and 3 dimensional space in different contexts
  • Investigate life and work related problems using data and probabilities
  • Accomodate audience and context needs in oral communication
  • Demonstrate and understanding of the use of different number bases and measurement units and an awareness of error in the context relevant calculations
  • Interpret and use information from texts
  • Identify, handle and defuse security related conflict
  • Respond to emergency signals and situations
  • Use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal, business and national issues
